“Growing up in the city of Aberdeen, I have been surrounded by visual art all my life. Art galleries and exhibitions have always been influential area of peace and tranquillity as the creative minds of artists are admired.
Moving to the town of Dunfermline, people have to travel to Edinburgh, and other surrounding cities to experience this tranquillity and expressive atmosphere. The work of young art students in Dunfermline is only seen behind classroom doors.
An art centre would provide students with an opportunity to be praised for their hard work and dedication to art and would allow for a future society where artistic youths have a place to share skills and inspire others.
The availability of an arts centre in the heart of the community of Dunfermline would allow the minds of young artists to blossom, as they can live and breathe artistic skills and indulge in creativity in an inspiring haven of art.”

“As a student currently studying Higher Art and Design at Dunfermline High School, and as someone who is very passionate about art, I am excited at the prospect of an Art Studio in the centre of Dunfermline for the community, I personally feel it would provide a place for people to express themselves creatively and act as a positive outlet to people in the community.
This is a fresh and innovative idea, nothing of a similar nature exists elsewhere in Dunfermline.
This would be a place of refuge or escape and to nurture young talent and would provide happiness for local people.”

“The definition of art is the creation of beautiful or thought-provoking works, e.g. in painting, music, or writing. Where better to host a gallery than a building that has been integral to the community for many years.
Where better than a site that is central to Dunfermline, where people can walk past and be inspired?
Gallery’s are a haven of tranquillity and a space to learn.
The architect James Shearer throughout his career provided much to the area of Dunfermline, especially in furthering education. How best to inspire Dunfermline’s and surrounding areas youth than provide an art gallery in a building that is part of the landscape?”

“To quote John Berger: ‘I can’t tell you what art does and how it does it, but I know that often art has judged the judges, pleaded revenge to the innocent and shown to the future what the past has suffered, so that it has never been forgotten. Art, when it functions like this, becomes a meeting place of the invisible, the irreducible, the enduring, guts and honour.’
I think if art is to be in Dunfermline, and to be there and not laughed at, it must be art powerful enough to live up to these words.

“I’ve lived in Dunfermline my whole life and never have I imagined or thought about and arts centre becoming part of the community. It’s interesting and new. And Change.
Why I’ve never thought about it, being someone wanting to study art, I don’t know. But it just seems like such an open minded way forward in terms of the creative arts in Dunfermline.
Lets let it provoke more imagination, more creativity in people’s minds.
Having this arts centre could become a type of sanctuary for those who want to have a place where they can express themselves outside the art classrooms, their own homes … their own
minds. Perhaps like the stage the musicians, actors and dancers have already been performing on in this town for all these years…”

“I was never really exposed to the art that surrounded me as a child and remained almost completely ignorant most of my teenage years, isn’t it a shame when we are pumping our children
full of knowledge day in and day out and they can’t even tell you who Frank Auerbach is? Well I think it is.
I’m from a small village with literally almost zip for teenagers to do, an art centre half an hour away from me in a town I visit often would be amazing.
Imagine actually going to meet up with your friends and doing something productive … something that might actually shape and change the way you look at the world or influence your future career in a positive way … wow that would be different.”
